We are committed to making a difference in the communities where we work and live. Since 1912, that belief has shaped how Dorsey shows up in the communities where we live and work - through pro bono legal work, volunteer service, charitable giving, and environmental stewardship. It reflects a broader commitment the Firm holds as a core value: that professional success and community leadership go hand in hand.
Attorneys and business professionals across the Firm's offices bring that commitment to life in different ways, whether representing clients who cannot otherwise access the legal system, serving on nonprofit boards, volunteering personal time, or supporting organizations that strengthen and sustain our communities. We also look for opportunities to work alongside our clients. By bringing our people, skills, and relationships together, we can extend the reach of our community efforts.
We partner with clients to pursue these efforts together, extending the reach and impact of that shared commitment.
Dorsey has provided pro bono legal services to underserved individuals and communities for decades, formalizing that commitment into a dedicated program in 1986 and becoming a charter signatory to the ABA's Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge in 1993. Dorsey's attorneys across all offices continue to devote thousands of hours each year to matters ranging from high-impact litigation and legislative advocacy to community clinics and direct client representation.

Community impact at Dorsey extends beyond the legal services we provide. Attorneys and business professionals volunteer across a wide range of causes, including education, youth development, health, and community engagement. Our people mentor, serve on nonprofit boards, participate in community events, and provide hands-on support to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Feed My Starving Children, Partnership to End Homelessness, and United Way Day of Caring.

The Firm provides financial support to nonprofit organizations across legal services, education, healthcare, social services, the arts, and community development. Many of these efforts are strengthened through partnerships with our clients and community organizations pursuing shared philanthropic goals, broadening our reach and impact. Together, these contributions reflect our broader commitment to the long-term vitality and resilience of the communities we serve.

The Firm endeavors to be a good steward of the communities where we work and live, guided by a policy to conserve natural resources and energy, reduce waste, and support organizations that promote sustainability. That commitment extends to educating attorneys and business professionals on minimizing environmental impact. Together, these efforts reflect our commitment to thinking ahead for the benefit of future generations.
